San Francisco - Day 5

Another fantastic, sunny day in San Francisco. We headed off down the road and stopped in at the Cable Car Diner for breakfast. Wow, was this good. Dereck had fried eggs, bacon, hashbrowns and toast and I had an omlette filled with various veggies, hashbrowns and toast. The best omlette I have had in a while!! Dereck wanted to find a guitar shop, so we headed off to catch the bus to Van Ness road where he found his shop. He was in guitar heaven!! (see two posts down for the pictures) I had to drag him out as he was looking a guitars costing anything from $2000 upwards and saying that they were a good price!!! Caught another bus to Fillmore and wondered around looking at the various shops. This is apparently a famous music area. From there we walked to the Alamo Square where the famous “painted ladies” are. These are a set of 5 houses that have all been nicely painted and are the most photographed houses in San Francisco. It was high up on a hill, so you also got lovely views of the city skyline.

From there we walked down the road to catch the trolley car back into town. This was the only place where we felt a little uneasy as there were quite a number of youths hanging around. Got back to our hotel to charge batteries etc. Went out again at 6:45pm to get a view of the sunset, but the cable car took too long that by the time we got to the spot, the sun had already set! We then caught the next cable car back to our hotel and watched a bit of TV (just for a change!!!)

It really seems that SF has got millions of hills and you are always working your way up and down hills. Love the painted ladies ... beautiful vistas of the city. Hugs from Desire
